Count Your Blessings

I like naps. The kind of naps you take almost by accident. The ones where you walk in and collapse on the sofa/bed, you wake up 15 minutes later and wiggle under the covers before falling back asleep. I would nap every day if I could, and when I think about it I basically do.

I like the fact that I am at one of the thirteen Universities of California. I have practically unlimited access to learn about anything I want, from Comics to Chaucer.

I like cold drinks (sweet tea!) on a hot day.

I like deep conversations with old and new friends.

I like the smell of the grass after a good rain.

I like old movies, good food, and creating family memories.

I like the fact that the God of the Universe wants a personal relationship with me. Just because.

I like love. The concept of love has been a pivotal part of my relationship with Christ, how he loves me, how I am called to love him and others. It is why I plan on tattooing Agape on my wrist, to never forget how we are supposed to love.

Count your blessings is a common response in a lot of situations. A friend has a cold and you count your blessings that you did not manage to catch it. But have you ever actually attempted to count all of your blessings?

The topic for this week was "God is Trustworthy".

So often in my life I forget to trust him. Well... if I am being honest it isn't that I forget rather that I just don’t want too, I don’t like his timing. (Granted when I reflect on his timing I realize He does know what He is doing.)

Still.

The Hebrew people were constantly trying to remember to trust God and often times they did this by remembering all of the blessings he has showered upon them. Psalms is full of stories of God coming to the rescue and keeping his promises.

When was the last time you counted your blessings?

Naps, education, friends, rain, sunrises, old movies, food, family, I bet if you sat down and made a list you would come up with a lot of blessings: from a strangers smile to the fact that the Creator of the stars also knows every hair on your head (Isn't that insane? You don't even know how many hairs are on your head... and its your head!).

Humor me and try this: Put a notebook by your bed and every night for a week write down all of the blessings you experienced that day. Better yet, take it with you though out your day, this way if you ever find yourself having a hard time to trust in Him, you will be able to remember all of the blessings he showers on you.

Psalm 91: 14-16
 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
   I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
   I will be with him in trouble,
   I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
   and show him my salvation.”
